The Hunter's guide to Vampires

Myths

  • Sunlight: Sunlight does not kill or gravely injure vampires. A Vampire's eyes are well adapted to darkness, and are therefore extremely sensitive to light, making them blind until normal vision returns.
  • Crucifix: Vampires are indeed weak against the Christian Religion (as long as it is represented in a physican form), since Vampires were directly linked to Satanism and therefore able to be killed by a pure and holy item. However, an empty cross with no meaning behind it is nothing as it does now carry the old faith of religion along with it. Crucifixs make a white stain on the skin of any human who has been bitten by a vampire.
  • Fire: Fire has been widely known as the only true form of killing a vampire. This, however, is not true. Perhaps the light may blind a Vampire's adjusted eyes, but a vampire will be affected same as any normal human would.
  • Garlic: Garlic has long been used as a method of warding off a vampire. Garlic has an odd property that reacts harshly to vampire venom, and therefore vampires tend to stay away. A vampire in human form will not be repelled by garlic as it has no effect on them in human form, but instead may choose not to eat it because the closer to their Shifting, the more of a stomach ache they will recieve. If garlic is still in a human's system when they Shift into vampire form, it will have grave concequences.
  • Stakes: Staking a vampire was originally one of the most common ways of killing a vampire, but it originated when it was used to ensure that a vampire was affixed to the ground and could not escape. The stake must be driven right through the heart for it to have any effect, otherwise the normal reactions would occur as it would to any human.

Shifting

  • Vampires Shift forms every full moon.
  • Like Werewolves, they have the ability to change back at will before the full moon sets, but they must first remain in their Shifted form for ten minutes before changing back.
  • On the days just before and after a full moon, a vampire's eye markings (If any) will begin to appear around their eyes. Usually they are unnoticable by humans, but other vampires are keen to them, as are certain werewolves that possess markings, too. Vampire hunters who have the natural vampire hunting bloodlines in them are able to sometimes detect markings when they appear and use this to find vampires.

Bites

  • Vampires can inject the venom nessecary for turning another human into a vampire at will. It is their choice whether they want to pass down the ability or not when they bite.
  • The Vampire venom from a bite can be extracted by applying garlic juice over the open wound within ten minutes of recieving the bite. The vampire must still be in shifted form otherwise it won't work.
  • The bite must draw blood for the venom to take effect, although there have been some rare cases in which 'half-bitten' humans have drawn in enough venom for them to become 'half-vampires'. These humans are not dangerous and can not pass on a bite, but they shift partway every full moon.
